This week, Planetary’s system was reinstalled at the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) facility in Norfolk, Virginia, marking the beginning of Phase 2 of our ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) trial.

Originally launched in 2024, this research effort included a planned pause to review findings and prepare for continued work in 2025. With the system now back in place, testing will begin next week to ensure everything is operating as expected.

The following week, beginning July 8, we plan to start dosing enhanced lime slurry as part of our continued investigation into safe and effective methods of rebalancing the climate through OAE.

This trial is being conducted in partnership with the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) and HRSD, under existing regulatory permits and with support from a NOAA grant.

Phase 2 will run through mid-August.
