We Are Proud To Share Our Recent Updates With Our Community!
From Nova Scotia to Virginia and meetings spanning the globe, Planetary’s work this season has been defined by momentum. Across each region and partnership, our commitment to responsible progress that is grounded in science, transparency, and collaboration is driving meaningful climate and ocean impact. Read on for updates across the organization.
Our Communities
At the Cape Breton CEPI meeting, our team shared Planetary’s Two-Eyed Seeing framework. This framework honours both Indigenous and Western knowledge systems ensuring a holistic approach is used in decision-making. The session brought together municipal leaders, Elders, and representatives from five First Nations. Dr. Albert Marshall, one of two originators of Two-Eyed Seeing, blessed this effort. Our team also co-created and co-hosted a hands-on educational session with the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre as part of the Every One Every Day initiative, aimed at fostering learning and creativity for youth through community engagement.
Policy and Government
Planetary’s CEO, Mike Kelland, testified before Canada’s Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans, advocating for the inclusion of ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) in compliance markets to enable scalable, science-based carbon mitigation solutions. (Watch Mike’s testimony here)
Soon after, Senator Colin Deacon visited our Tufts Cove site, recognizing Planetary’s leadership in the Canadian Senate. (Watch the Senate Session here) Further, on October 3, Minister Halman also tabled a Notice of Motion in the Nova Scotia Legislature highlighting our climate contributions.
Science and Operations
Our team has continued to deliver scientific progress. In Virginia, we completed the world’s first successful dosing pilot using a calcium byproduct, bolstering the case for the potential of large-scale carbon removal while utilizing legacy industrial byproducts and leveraging natural oceanic carbon removal capacity. This milestone represents the completion of Phase 2 of our NOAA-funded partnership with UMCES and the University of Delaware. (Read about the project here)
At Tufts Cove, we upgraded our monitoring systems, commissioned our V3 dosing system in Halifax, processed ~4,000 tonnes of magnesium hydroxide, and achieved a remarkable 17% emissions reduction per kilogram of our feedstock in our most detailed Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) yet, weatherized technician stations, and enhanced sensor performance for high-quality continuous data. Our partnership with Dalhousie University continues to strengthen model validation and data integrity.
Commercial and Organizational Growth
Our operational advances culminated in the first ever kilotonne delivery for OAE (Read about the world’s first verified OAE delivery here) and a 45% reduction in time-to-credit, setting a new industry benchmark for verification efficiency.
Planetary closed a $31.3 million offtake with Frontier, (Read about the offtake here) representing the largest OAE deal in history. We also sold out of our entire 2025 carbon removal supply to a diverse customer base with a wide range of carbon market experience and industry focus. Our commercial team has doubled in size, while new hires across operations, policy, and community engagement reflect our commitment to expanding responsibly.
Looking Ahead
The path forward for Planetary and our oceans looks bright. We plan to expand collaborations, continue to work transparently, and to prove that responsible ocean-based carbon removal can scale responsibly and effectively all while prioritizing community health and planetary benefit.
From local partnerships to global milestones, each achievement reflects our mission: Restore the ocean and climate health for future generations. We thank you deeply for being part of this mission.
