Planetary is proud to be the flagship contributor to Carbon to Sea’s newly launched OAE Data Commons, building on our longstanding commitment to transparency and open access to our data.
From the beginning, Planetary Technologies has believed that progress in coastal ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) depends on more than demonstrating that the science works; it depends on making the evidence available for others to examine, question, reproduce, and build upon.
That is why transparency has been a core part of our approach from the start.
Today, we are pleased to be the flagship contributor to the OAE Data Commons, launched by Carbon to Sea and Submarine Scientific. The Data Commons provides a shared infrastructure for making OAE research easier to find, interpret, compare, and scrutinize. For a field working to bridge the gap between scientific consensus and public perception, creating common approaches to data sharing is an important step forward.
For Planetary, this builds on work we have already been doing for years.
Our research and monitoring data have been made available through multiple forums, including Zenodo, where scientific datasets can be openly archived and accessed, and Isometric’s carbon removal registry, where information about our project as well as independently verified carbon removal data are publicly available.
These platforms serve different but complementary purposes. Isometric provides independent verification and public reporting of our carbon removal activities, while the OAE Data Commons connects directly with repositories such as Zenodo to make underlying scientific datasets more accessible. By contributing to these platforms, it provides the OAE community with multiple options to discover, interpret, and compare our research across multiple data sets.
Together, these platforms make it easier to follow the evidence from monitoring to measurement, to verification of our work.
We are proud to contribute to a more transparent, verifiable, and collaborative future for coastal OAE to restore and protect the ocean for generations to come.
