Planetary Technologies is excited to engage with the community in Cornwall and Hayle, UK as we kick off our upcoming research study!

The research we are currently undertaking is critically important if we are going to collectively meet our climate goals around the world and we are excited to be connecting with the community on this important topic.

Over the years we have created a technology that speeds up the ocean’s natural ability of removing carbon from the atmosphere but at the speed and scale the climate crisis demands. We do this by adding pure antacid (like a Rennie), made of the same stuff that’s in the ocean already – so we can remove carbon from the atmosphere while simultaneously restoring marine ecosystems.

To date, we’ve done extensive work at universities and in closed environments. Small and very well monitored trials like the one we have planned at Hayle are the next step in determining if this important climate solution can scale up safely and effectively.

While this trial is our biggest one yet, like all our research done to date and in keeping with our Code of Conduct – it’s still very small and well monitored. There will be both biological and chemical monitoring throughout and we’re committed to publishing our results publicly. We’re also working with the regulator, who has given us a high standard to meet and will be with us on this journey.

The target is to add 0.007% of antacid (like a Rennie or milk of magnesia) to the existing water flow at Hayle. This product is already used in water processing. The amount is so small that we can barely measure it as it comes out of the pipe, even with the most sensitive instruments available today – fading instantly as it makes its way into the ocean.

We are sincerely looking forward to engaging with the community on our work – we are both excited to share our perspective and to also hear the unique perspectives from all of you on the important climate and environmental challenges before us.

One thing is very clear to the team at Planetary – beyond having thoughts and opinions – the urgency of the climate crisis is calling on us to act. Our actions must be thoughtful and scaled in a manner where we can learn safely and quickly.

The team at Planetary is ready to act, ready to learn, and ready others to join us on this journey. Please join us at one of the following events, we are excited to learn from you:
